When should I plan on having my maternity portraits taken?
We recommend scheduling your session to take place at around 32-36 weeks. This allows you to have that awesome, obvious bulge of pregnancy but still feel comfortable enough in your own skin to get in and out of various poses. If you%u2019re already further along, that%u2019s okay, too. We%u2019ve had great success with late-stage maternity portraits. Just keep in mind that babies do sometimes arrive early!
When should I book my newborn session?
We strongly recommend first giving us a heads-up of your due date so that we can start to make plans for you in our calendar. Then, once your baby is born, give us a call, email us, or drop us a line on Facebook as soon as possible. Some moms have even called us from the hospital! To ensure the best portraits possible, we%u2019ll want to photograph your newborn 6-10 days after birth.
Why is it important that I come in for newborn portraits during my baby's first ten days?
As a mom myself, I completely understand how adding a portrait session to your first week with a newborn can seem like just one thing too many. But there are many reasons why making portraits a first-week priority can have huge pay-offs. Many of the most beloved and creative Bump & Bambino newborn poses are only possible with a sleeping baby. Holding the newborn portrait session during your baby%u2019s first week gives us better odds of catching that super sleepy time in his life when we%u2019ll be able to move him from pose to pose without (hopefully) waking him. It%u2019s also a great time for capturing the floppiness and vulnerability of a brand-new baby, and usually that classic newborn acne hasn%u2019t yet set in! Plus, don%u2019t you want to be able to remember your baby at his very tiniest?
What if my baby won't sleep or won't stop crying?
Two of the hallmarks of the Bump & Bambino approach are patience and respect. We understand that your baby has her own needs and may need time (sometimes a lot of it) to settle in to our studio and relax. We only book one portrait session per day so that we can be sure to have enough time to %u201Cwait it out%u201D and allow you to respond to your child without too much concern over his %u201Cperformance.%u201D In almost every instance, this patience and relaxed atmosphere has paid off with wonderful portraits once your baby is at ease (or, in the case of a newborn, asleep). If your little one simply is unable to settle, we offer 50% off a %u201Cdo-over%u201D session (completed within a week).
